Monday's Absolute Beginner Watercolor Class at Port Moody Arts Centre

Beautiful, love all the variations of color so far
I thought I would post another photo of my students hard at work :)

This is from the third class so we have gone through all of our color theory and techniques .... now to play!

The first painting we start with is an abstract exercise to apply what we have went over the first two classes.  It is a great exercise as it enables students to really practice everything taught in the first two classes without the pressure of creating a realistic painting.

Look at that focus!
That being said, the paintings always turn out looking awesome and unique.

My next Watercolor Painting for the Absolute Beginner starts March 23, 2015 and is starting to fill up already! Please visit http://register.asapconnected.com/EventDetail.aspx?pk=343497 to register or call (604) 931-2008 for more information.

Absolute Beginner Oil Painting Students Hard at Work

And no longer absolute beginners ;)  It is only the third class and I am so happy with the progress of all the artists in the class have made so far.  We are working from a photo for this class and as there are only 6 classes this time around, so we are working quickly!

During this class we worked on the Open Grisaille which is a painting of the subject using only a quick drying, transparent paint such as burnt umber.  Normally solvent is used during this stage but as this class is a non-toxic class, we used good old elbow grease instead :)

I love this phase of the painting as it is still quite loose and takes shape rather quickly which is really satisfying.  Once this layer is dry we will move onto the Closed Grisaille....fun!

The next beginner class starts in March, visit http://www.stateofartportraits.com/art-workshops-lessons.htm for more info.

I Love My Job!

And judging by all the laughing that night, I think everyone else had a good time too :)  This class was a sampler class so I only got these students for one night and only for two hours, not nearly long enough!

I did a very short color theory review as I demoed several watercolor painting techniques.

Then they all jumped in and started working on their own watercolor paintings. The paintings are an abstract exercise I love to do as the artist can explore so many techniques all in one painting.  I teach this exercise in my Watercolor Painting for the Absolute Beginner class as well.

My next Watercolor Painting for the Absolute Beginner starts March 23, 2015 and is starting to fill up already! Please visit http://register.asapconnected.com/EventDetail.aspx?pk=343497 to register or call (604) 931-2008 for more information.
