Abstract Acrylic - Closer to the Flame

Closer to the Flame
9x11" Framed
$75.00
Well the good thing that comes from all the running around and not being in the studio is having frames and mats handy to actually framed my pieces as they are finished rather than haunt me from the far end of my studio :)

This is the latest piece in my abstract acrylic series,  yes I am a little hooked on the blue.  It is such a peaceful yet vivid color it makes it hard to play with any others :)

Studio Photo Published in the Now for Port Moody Art Show

Working on "Torn"
12x24" Oil on Panel
Well this is a nice way to start the weekend :) This photo of me working on a painting in my studio and a short article appear in The Now newspaper to promote the Port Moody Art Show.

Sadly I was not painting at all today but running around buying frames from one location, mats from another and battling all the construction currently underway in the tri-cities.  Now that I have all my mats and frames I can get back to painting, yay :)

Positively Petite Poster
November 18 to December 17

And last but not least, the Positively Petite  poster :) It is nice to have shows with opening receptions for a change.  So much funner when I actually get a chance to see the exhibits and sip wine & chat with other artists, not just drop off a painting and run to the next errand ;)

The gallery will also have their Christmas Boutique and an exhibit by Sandrine Pelissier who paints really unique watercolor portraits so show be quite the show :)

Port Coquitlam Winter Artisans Fair

The Winter Artisans Fair is fast approaching.  Funny I felt more prepared two weeks ago than I do now! Looks like I will be in for a few late nights getting everything framed and organized :)

I don't know what I was thinking having three exhibits/shows in one month, good thing I work best under pressure! Now where is that expresso....

Abstract Acrylic Painting - Blue Nebula

Abstract Acrylic Painting
9x11" Framed
$75.00
This is another abstract acrylic painting I did during the summer and matted and framed today.  It is called Blue Nebula and will be on display at the Port Moody Art Show from Nov 5-7 along with Ripple Effect

I love the color of this one and how the layers built up in swirling layers.  I plan to do more with using this color scheme, now if I can remember what colors I used...hmmm.

Abstract Acrylic - Ripple Effect

Ripple Effect
9x11" Framed
$75.00
This is my latest abstract painting, Ripple Effect. Well actually I think I painted it during the summer and finally got it framed, I have been a little busy ;)

I am working on a series of these.  They are as fun to watch dry as they are to paint.  They remind me of watercolor in their translucency but with the shine of acrylic.

This painting will be displayed at the Port Moody Art Show from Nov 5-7, 2010.  The opening reception with wine & nibblies will be held on Friday, November 5th at 7:30 pm.
The show continues from 10am to 5pm
both Saturday & Sunday, November 5 & 6th,  Admission is free so please drop by to visit and see some great art.

Harley Davidson Commssion - Photos of the Birthday Boy

Well it looks like the Harley Davidson portrait will be well loved :)  My client, his wife, sent me photos of the birthday boy with his gift at his 50th birthday party.

Too funny having the bike in the house for the party, or maybe it is kept inside whenever he is not out cruising? Ah wouldn't blame him if it were ;)

It is funny as I am not really a bike person but man I miss this drawing everytime I see a photo of it, aha separation anxiety settling in again :)

Drawing Realistic Graphite Portraits Workshop
Feb 5 & 6

Graphite Baby Portrait
11x14"
Before the workshop was half way done I had several requests for another session, as soon as possible, yay :) So, I have scheduled another workshop for February 5 & 6 at Leigh Square in the Residence Room.

I found that eight was a really nice sized group so we will be limiting workshop sizes to ten.  Six artists have already preregistered (ie asked me to email them as soon as registration online opens) so if you are interested just let me know and I can add your name to the list.  If we end up with more than ten registrants, I will see if we can add an additional workshop around the same time.

I think it is best to keep the class size limited and just have more workshops so everyone gets more than enough one on one time as well as the group demos as that seemed to work really well last weekend.

Realistic Graphite Workshop Photos

Well I think it is safe to say we all had a great time this weekend at the workshop :) I was very fortunate to have such a great energetic group to work with for my first workshop. The artists ranged from total beginners to very advanced artist, some local some from as far as the sunshine coast and one with over 40 years of drawing skills!

It was a very relaxed and fun class but everyone was very hard core and focused which is so great.

Graphite Portrait Commission
Father & Son Christmas Gift Completed

Father & Son Graphite Portrait
Christmas Gift
Just a few finishing touches were needed on the baby and blanket so I thought I would post the completed portrait commission matted to show how it will look framed.

It is nice to have a Christmas commission completed so early for a change, usually there is the mad rush to beat the postal deadlines and make it through customs before the 25th :)

Miniature Oil Landscapes
5x7" Framed Oil on Panel
$75.00 each

Watercolor Flowers
5x7" Framed Watercolor on Paper
$45.00 Each
This year I have been juried into the Winter Artisans Fair at Leigh Square.  I checked it out last year and I was really impressed by the quality of the products being displayed.  They have everything from potters, jewelers, photographers, painters to people selling home made foods and preserves.

I will be displaying many of my smaller pieces in oil, watercolor and graphite pencil.  It is a great way to find hand made Christmas gifts without having to make them yourself ;)  I hope to pick up a few gifts while I am there as well!

Graphite Portrait Commission
Father & Son Christmas Gift - Update #5

The baby's hand and diaper need to be completed but other than that I think only very minor adjustments are needed.  I will leave for a bit to come back with fresh eyes to be sure.

Graphite Portrait Commission
Father & Son Christmas Gift - Father Update #3

The father's features are really taking shape now but still more refinement is needed, especially on his mouth, but I will again leave it overnight so I can have fresh eyes in the morning.

The hair has been filled in and is very near completion and I have "aged" him more and added his smile lines.  I will go back to work on the baby tomorrow as well and hopefully do the finishing touches on the baby's face and body.

Father & Son Christmas Gift - Father Update #3

I have further refined the father's features and I think he is getting much closer but will leave overnight again to come back with fresh eyes.

His brow needs to be thickened as do his lashes and then a bit more refining of his mouth.  I added more shape to his hair and will do at least one more pass before the hair is completed.

Graphite Portrait Commission
Father & Son Christmas Gift - Father Update #2

Father & Son Christmas Commission
Father Update #2
The father is starting to look better but still much more work to be done to capture his likeness.  His chin and mouth especially need tweaking but his features are starting to fall into shape.  The shadows and highlights look much harsher online than on the real portrait but once the rest of the shading and highlights get more refined they should settle in better.

I darkened the shirt more to better judge the values. This will likely be as dark as the darkest value gets but it will be blended in more and subtle shapes will be added to give a bit of detail but not to distract away from the portrait.
