Graphite Portrait Commission
Father & Son Christmas Gift - Father Update #2

Father & Son Christmas Commission
Father Update #2
The father is starting to look better but still much more work to be done to capture his likeness.  His chin and mouth especially need tweaking but his features are starting to fall into shape.  The shadows and highlights look much harsher online than on the real portrait but once the rest of the shading and highlights get more refined they should settle in better.

I darkened the shirt more to better judge the values. This will likely be as dark as the darkest value gets but it will be blended in more and subtle shapes will be added to give a bit of detail but not to distract away from the portrait.

It's still looking better and better. You are definitely right that the dad's features need a little tweaking...he's a TOTAL manly man so we can't portray him with feminine features. You're doing beautifully. :) Thank you so much. I keep comparing each update with the original photo and it's closer and closer each time.
Thanks,

Ashley

Thanks Ashley, I am glad you are enjoying the updates :) Yes I once the smile lines and more of the features are added in he will definitely get more manly. Building the features up thinly always gives the best results but requires alot of restraint & paitence. Slowly but surely wins the race right ??!? :)

Looking good, as usual. But he's WAY too young to be a dad... :)

Thanks Andrea :) lol I KNOW, & this is his 3rd I believe! He does look a little older in the reference photo...but not much ;) Give him another year, all those kids, aging happens even faster :)

He's 33!! We have my son from a previous marriage, our son together which is in the photo, he has one biological daughter and one daughter that he adopted.

HOwever, I know he will be very pleased after christmas to know that people think he looks too young for children! When he receives the gift I"m going to show him this page and comments so he can see how neat the experience really was!

Thanks,
Ashley

Nice, I am sure he will enjoy the updates...well I hope ;) My last client had her commission framed & had me print off the posts and hide them in the frame for a future surprise too, good idea :)
