Christmas Watercolor Horse Portrait Commission - Update #2

Watercolor Horse Portrait Commission
I have started laying in the colors on her coat, some areas wet on dry and some areas dry brushing to add variety in texture and allowing the colors to blend on the paper rather than mixing on the pallete.

Many, many more layers to go!

I'm enjoying this! I rarely paint horses but, like you, once spent entire years drawing nothing else. I did do a small portrait a couple of years ago, though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/didrooglie/109757388/

Thanks Andrea, yes I was quite excited to have an excuse to paint a horse and this horse is just beautiful. There is also a photo of her with her two foals that I hope to get the chance to paint, it is just a breath taking moment as they are all standing so close to each other you can tell they love each other, very sweet.

I really like your horse painting, your use of color just baffles me as I would never think it would work & there it is totally working! I think I am slowly being converted over to a color lover ;)

Tracey: I have a very good friend in Calgary who I talk to constantly (she has an awesome phone plan) and she is a quite well known equine artist, even designing coins for the Canadian Mint. Check out her website: http://www.michellegrant.ca
