Watercolor Dog Memorial Portrait - Sketch

The sketch has been transferred to the watercolor paper and has been adjusted in photoshop so the lines can be seen better online. The flowers & leaves will be done very loosely for a glowing effect whereas the deck and Kelly's portrait will have stronger details to ensure that they come forward and that Kelly stays the focal point of the painting. A few of the flower petals and leaves will have more detail just to lead the eye and add interest.

i can barely wait to see this one completed! what a great ref to work with also. so many times the photos of deceased pets are not good quality which can make for a major challenge(headache).

yes it is a beautiful photo isn't it and the lighting and quality of the photo is great...which is a good thing, did you see all the fur... ;)

i saw all that fur.:( that's when i'd get out my scruffy brushes and apply watercolor like oils. i did a cat with a similar coat and could think of no other way to translate that onto paper. i'll be watching to see how you handle it.;)

lol you sound like you think I have an actual plan..just kidding :) I have never painted with oils..yet but I will likely just approach this similarly to my other drawings and painting by doing and underdrawing and then just building up using my round sable brushes that I LOVE. I can't seem to get used to the flats but maybe because they are the cheaper quality and I am just so hooked on the sables. I got them as a gift in the form of a gift certificate to a big art store that I love here. The ultimate gift for an artist hey, money to burn at the art store heh heh :)
